The U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) is seeking nominations to its ERISA Advisory Council.

According to a release by the agency, five, three-year positions for the Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans will be open for nominations. The council is run by 15 members and provides advice on policies and regulations that impact employee benefit plans governed by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA). Nominations are opened for the fields of employee organizations, employers, the general public, actuarial counseling and investment counseling.

Council members serve for staggered three-year terms and are appointed by the Secretary of Labor to represent different areas in employee benefits. The council holds meetings at a minimum of four times per year and are in charge of making recommendations to the DOL secretary over functions implemented by ERISA. Council members generally attend and participate in meetings and other work for at least 20 day per year, the release states.

EBSA is looking for nominations that describe the nominee’s qualifications, the position, including group or field, they are being nominated for, and should notify whether the candidate would accept the appointment if offered. They should also include both the candidate’s and nominator’s full name, work affiliation, mailing address, phone number, and email address. EBSA requires that nominations are submitted via letter, resolution, or petition, and signed by the person, or in the case of a nomination by an organization, by the group’s representative making the recommendation.

Nominations should be submitted to Council Executive Secretary George Pantazopoulos as e-mail attachments to ERISAAdvisoryCouncil@dol.gov or by mail to U.S. Department of Labor, 200 Constitution Ave. NW, Suite N-5700, Washington, DC 20210. The deadline to submit nominations is Aug. 26, 2024.
