September 6 is National 401(k) Day, and with that in mind, today the Plan Sponsor Council of America (PSCA) announced a free educational campaign, “Building Your Financial Future: Start Today, Retire Tomorrow.”
PSCA has long recognized the Friday after Labor Day as 401(k) Day to raise awareness of the importance of responsible retirement planning, providing resources for plan sponsors to use with their employees on 401(k) day and throughout the year.
This year’s campaign theme focuses on building your financial future one step at a time, starting with participating in the plan and taking full advantage of a company’s 401(k) match. The campaign also includes “Fact or Fiction” slides that can address common barriers to employees enrolling in the plan.
“Education is the first step for success as workers plan for their retirement. PSCA is grateful to the hard work of its Education and Communication committee members, who volunteered their time and expertise to provide this free campaign to plan sponsors,” said Will Hansen, executive director of PSCA. “This campaign can be used anytime throughout the year to encourage employees to save for retirement, either as a standalone campaign or in conjunction with open enrollment or other existing educational efforts.”
Campaign materials include a sample outreach schedule, customizable flyers, and customizable presentations for interactive education sessions. The new campaign—as well as previous campaigns—are available on PSCA’s website at: https://www.psca.org/industry-content/resources/401k-day/.
The Plan Sponsor Council of America, part of the American Retirement Association (ARA), is a diverse, collaborative community of employee benefit plan sponsors, working together on behalf of millions of employees to solve real problems, create positive change, and expand on the success of the employer-sponsored retirement system.
401(k) Day 1% Challenge
To celebrate 401(k) Day, Prime Capital Retirement is encouraging people to participate in the Prime Capital Retirement 401(k) Day 1% Challenge, a unique wellness event which consists of two components:
• Increase the amount you are contributing to your retirement plan by 1% of your compensation.
• Run or walk 1% of 401 kilometers (4.01k). This is equal to 2.5 miles.
As an incentive, people who complete the 1% Challenge on September 6 and log their run or walk, will be entered in a raffle for a chance to win a $100 gift card. One gift card will be given away each hour today, from 1 am to midnight, to a participant who completed the challenge during the prior hour. People may enter as many times as they wish (or can), but they have to run/walk 4.01k each hour of the day that you enter.
