Did Labor Secretary Perez slip in the Clinton VP draft?

Despite its 1,000-plus pages, the DOL’s fiduciary rule was considered a win for Labor Secretary Tom Perez, further solidifying his rumored front-runner status as a possible Hillary Clinton VP pick. He’ll need to learn the art of brevity, however, if he wants to remain there.

The conservative Daily Caller website reported on an alleged awkward moment for Perez over the weekend, one in which the crowd loudly groaned as he opened for the presumptive Democratic nominee at a campaign stop. After droning on a bit too long, the Clinton faithful were heard to begin chanting, “We want Bill!,” a reference to the ex-president, who was slated to speak next.

“If Secretary of Labor Tom Perez has any hopes of being selected as Hillary Clinton’s running mate he may want to shave a few minutes off of his stump speech,” according to the website. “Perez drew groans in Chula Vista, Calif. on Saturday from a crowd anxious to hear Bill Clinton speak.

“I want to tell you one thing about a story that I remember vividly from Nevada about immigrants,” Perez said after he had already been speaking for a while, the Caller noted. The crowd was not pleased, resulting in the aforementioned groans and chants.

Perez is considered to be in the running for Hillary Clinton’s vice president pick, the website concluded, mainly because of his expected appeal to Latino voters.
