While hardly a surprise, managing editor Brian Anderson reports that single seniors are having a much harder time affording retirement than their married counterparts.
The research, from the American Advisors Group, found retirement plans have been less successful for single seniors, with 36% saying their retirement did not work out as planned. That compares with only 23% of married couples who answered the same.
A new bill seeks to expand HSAs to seniors covered by Medicare and would allow them to continue to use or open a new Health Savings Accounts.
Under current law, Medicare beneficiaries may only draw from an existing account.
Finally, a shout out to our drunken friends at the Retireholics. Aside from yours truly, their guests are usually subpar, but last Thursday’s episode at the Western Pension and Benefit Spring Conference featured ERISA attorney Brad Campbell from a law firm whose name we can never pronounce. It was a fun atmosphere and (except for Robe Guy) featured intelligent conversation. Let’s hope it’s the start of a trend.
