401(k) Specialist is pleased to announce that Amanda Umpierrez has joined the staff in Denver as Managing Editor, effective Nov. 1.

Umpierrez is a financial services journalist with more than 6 years of experience and a passion for telling stories and reporting news. She’s no stranger to the 401k beat, having previously served as a writer for PLANSPONSOR and PLANADVISER.

“I’m so excited to be joining 401(k) Specialist, a leading publication committed to providing timely and vital news to financial advisors in an ever-changing environment,” Umpierrez said. “I look forward to working with and learning from the 401(k) Specialist  team, to continue offering cutting-edge and significant insights to the retirement market.”

Umpierrez succeeds Brian Anderson in the Managing Editor role, as Anderson has been promoted to Editor-in-Chief of 401(k) Specialist following last week’s announcement that founding editor John Sullivan has been selected to succeed Nevin Adams as Chief Content Officer at the American Retirement Association.

“While we’re very happy for John Sullivan and his well-deserved new role at ARA, we’re also very excited to be adding the talents of Amanda, who knows the market and brings a new energy to our coverage of all things 401(k),” Anderson said. “She’ll also help us build out our social media presence, allowing us to more effectively reach advisors on their preferred platforms.”

In addition to bolstering 401(k) Specialist’s extensive coverage of emerging retirement reform legislation in the form of the SECURE Act 2.0 package widely expected to pass on Capitol Hill before the end of the year, Umpierrez will be covering a wide range of topics including target date funds, financial wellness, ESG matters, in-plan guaranteed lifetime income solutions, and other breaking news and emerging trends impacting the 401k market.

Umpierrez received her degree in journalism and government and politics at St. John’s University in New York. She is originally from Queens, N.Y., but now resides in Denver, with her partner.

She can be reached at aumpierrez@401kspecialist.com or (303) 483-5684. Editor-in-Chief Brian Anderson can be reached at banderson@401kspecialist.com and (303) 483-8165.
