Despite election angst and excitement, an innovative online advisor conference made headlines this week for the 401k marketing sessions and speakers it gathered together.
Hootsuite’s Amy McIlwain, incoming Chair of NAFA Brian Mann, The 401(k) Coach Charlie Epstein and Forbes Columnist Garrett Gunderson were among the experts to join baseball Hall of Famer Dave Winfield and 30-plus other presenters at the 2016 Virtual Advisor Summit running through Friday and archived online.
Training sessions focused on “mindset, sales, authority, digital marketing and branding,” according to executive producer of the summit, Jeremiah Desmarais, TED speaker and founder of the 1st Insurance Digital Marketing training program.
Mann’s session, “State of Nation: The DOL Ruling and How to Prepare,” was especially timely and topical given NAFA’s recent court challenge to the Department of Labor’s Conflict of Interest Rule, and the announcement of its appeal on Monday.
Mann specifically addressed the status of the DOL ruling, how advisors should prepare for it right now, the current activities that can shed light on possible clarification and “what NAFA is doing as part of the fight.”
Epstein described the challenges facing advisors and what is really going on with commissions and regulation. He also explained what authority marketing is and why it’s so powerful. He lastly revealed the “best business card ever” guaranteed to get you almost any meeting or speaking engagement.
Amy McIlwain answered an intriguing question during her session, “How to get $15M AUM for $900 spend.”
“Financial advisors always ask why they should even care about social media marketing, but it’s a question that’s coming up less and less,” McIlwain, Global Industry Principal for Financial Services at social media giant Hootsuite, explained. “People are noticing that social media is here to stay and it’s fundamentally changing the way we communicate. It’s not should we get on social media today, but rather how we do it, how do we measure and track the results and what tools we need to be successful.”
