2020 NAPA 401(k) Summit Still Set for September; Virtual Option Added

The 2020 NAPA 401(k) Summit is still on for September in Orlando, but a virtual summit option has been added.

As of July 9, the rescheduled 2020 NAPA 401(k) Summit is moving forward and set to happen as a live, in-person event Sept. 10-12 at Universal Orlando.

An update email sent this week from event organizer National Association of Plan Advisors (NAPA) also revealed the addition of a virtual summit option, with the understanding that not everyone who wishes to attend will be able to be there in person this year.

The NAPA 401(k) Summit was originally scheduled for April 26-28, but was postponed to September due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This week’s email emphasizes that extensive safety protocols have been developed with the health, safety and comfort of attendees in mind. NAPA said it has been working closely with Universal Orlando and Loews Hotels to develop the safety protocols.

In addition to Summit attendees, these safety protocols will also apply to hotel and park staff. As Florida safety guidelines and requirements change and shift between now and the Summit, NAPA said it will continue to adapt and refine its approach, sharing them with attendees on this resource page as the event approaches.

Among the safety protocols are daily temperature checks, contactless registration, redesigned exhibit space, no buffet meals, enhanced cleaning, and a ban on physical contact such as handshakes, hugs and high-fives. Face coverings will be required for everyone attending the NAPA Summit and evening After Dark activities, except when eating, drinking or presenting.

Social distancing decisions

NAPA’s event website says that based on conversations with Universal and Hotel executives and Florida state officials, by September it is not expected that social distancing will be required at a distance of six feet.

“Regardless, we will absolutely accommodate all attendees who would prefer to follow six-foot social distancing. So, for example, meeting rooms will be laid out so that a portion of the room is set at six-foot social distancing. Areas of the After Dark events each night will be reserved for those who want to maintain six-foot social distancing,” NAPA says. “All attendees will be provided with a choice of color-coded badges so you can indicate your social distance preferences.”

Virtual summit option

The creation of the new virtual summit option means all of the general sessions, keynote speakers, and five breakouts will be streamed live. It also means:

  • All sessions will be recorded and available for viewing through Oct. 31, 2020.
  • Everyone who attends the Summit in person will automatically be registered for the virtual option, so you can access the sessions while in Orlando and after you return home.
  • If you attend the virtual option, you can earn up to 11.5 CE credit hours.

NAPA also said it is using “flexible registration,” meaning if a registrant later decides they do not want to attend in person, they can switch to the Virtual Summit Option or cancel without penalty through Aug. 28.

Agenda highlights

Scheduled keynote speakers for the Summit include NAPA Executive Director Brian Graff, former U.S. Women’s Soccer national team coach Jill Ellis, decorated Navy SEAL and “Lone Survivor” author Marcus Luttrell, and international speaker, author, mentor, and financial services industry veteran Dominick Quartuccio.

Several sets of breakout sessions are also on the agenda, in addition to two nights of NAPA 401(k) Summit After Dark events at Universal’s CityWalk Orlando and Universal Orlando Theme Park.
