Retirement plan expert Pete Swisher recently announced the launch of Waypoint Fiduciary LLC., “a thinktank, consultant, and expert fiduciary for the U.S. retirement system.”
Waypoint’s first engagements are with associations and distributors focused on group retirement plan strategies—MEPs, PEPs, “groups of plans,” group trusts, and other pooled programs—but the full scope of services “includes a strong emphasis on systems consulting and specialized research for product builders and global strategists,” according to the announcement.
The high-profile Swisher served Pentegra Retirement Services as Senior Vice President and was National Sales Director from 2012 to 2018 and National Practice Leader from 2019 until February 13, 2020.
At Pentegra he led a “marketplace renaissance” that brought the firm to national prominence as a leader in fiduciary administration (service as the ERISA Section 3(16) plan administrator) and multiple employer plans (MEPs).
Plan pioneer
Prior to Pentegra, he led the growth of Unified Trust Company’s brand as one of the nation’s only discretionary trustees.
“His practical experience, therefore, spans the full spectrum of retirement plan operations, fiduciary duty, product, and distribution, and his hands-on involvement with constructing and distributing MEPs or their facsimiles goes back more than a decade.”
Today, he’s one of the top experts in the U.S. with respect to MEPs and their newest subtype, Pooled Employer Plans (PEPs). He’s also an author, speaker, and public figure for the retirement industry.
He was a founding member of the National Association of Plan Advisors (NAPA) via its first Leadership Council and served as NAPA’s founding Chairman of the Government Affairs Committee, where he worked first-hand with policy-makers and industry leaders on issues shaping the retirement industry today, including SECURE, PEPs, Association Retirement Plans, and the DOL fiduciary rules.
