Mickey Mouse is coming to North Carolina beginning 2027. The Walt Disney Company announced its second Disney retirement community slated to open in 2027, located in Pittsboro’s Chatham Park near Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Asteria, the second Storyliving by Disney development, is in the beginning stages of planning with Walt Disney Imagineering and DMB Development. It plans to offer over 4,000 single and multi-family units, including homes dedicated for those over the age of 55.
According to a statement from Walt Disney Company, the Asteria community will be part of a larger, 1,500-acre Chatham Park master-planned community by Preston Development Company.
“The announcement of the Asteria community builds upon strong initial interest for our first Storyliving by Disney community in California and will expand Disney-branded communities to the East Coast,” said Claire Bilby, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Signature Experiences Emerging Businesses, in a statement. “Our team has been working closely with Disney Imagineers to develop a unique vision for this project inspired by Walt Disney’s innate curiosity and North Carolina’s spirit of discovery.”
The Walt Disney Company touts its Asteria development as a community “designed to encourage exploration of the region’s natural beauty,” where residents will have access to neighborhood parks and bike trails.
Other amenities include a wellness and recreation center, restaurant, sport courts, swimming pools, community gardens, and outdoor spaces dedicated to lawn games, events, and fire pits.
Disney adults will also have access to “storytelling dinners inspired by Disney tales, lessons with Disney artists, and family fun days with Disney-themed activities.”
The media mega-giant last year announced its decision to develop a Cotino community in Rancho Mirage, California, set to open in 2024.
Walt Disney Company first announced plans to build its Storyliving communities throughout the United States early last year. At the time, the company said in a statement that as more and more fans look for new ways to make Disney a bigger part of their lives, the vibrant new neighborhoods will be “infused with the Company’s special brand of magic.”
Pre-sales appointments for homebuying in the Cotino community are now underway, while additional information on the Asteria development will be released when made available.
