Big news—an extremely effective and highly respected retirement industry advocate, Nevin Adams, is retiring. The prolific writer and speaker plans to continue doing what he does best but will end his time as Chief Content Officer for the American Retirement Association.

“Their good nature, work ethic, and helpful attitudes made my job more rewarding and were vital in producing professional and quality content …”

He asked that I take his place, an incredible honor and one I’m proud to accept.

While excited for the challenge and anxious to begin, my exit from 401(k) Specialist, and more importantly, my unbelievably talented colleagues, is bittersweet. The brand and products we’ve built over the last seven years—website, magazine, podcasts, and e-newsletters, not to mention a solid social media presence—are impressive, a testament to their skill and dedication, and unlike any I’ve previously seen in my career.

Their good nature, work ethic, and helpful attitudes made my job more rewarding and were vital in producing professional and quality content for which we are known. In short, they made me better, and I’m immensely grateful for their contributions. Without them, 401(k) Specialist would not be the highly regarded content source it is today.

Brian Anderson, our managing editor and my friend and colleague of 16 years, will assume the editor-in-chief role effective Nov. 1. His background in the financial and insurance industry trade press makes him perfectly suited to the position, as his work with the publication since 2019 demonstrates. Our incomparable digital, sales, operations, and administrative teams will continue to execute and expand their respective roles and reach, and I look forward to their continued success.

Lastly, thank you to our readers, many with whom I interact regularly, a true community of like-minded professionals doing all they can to ensure an affordable and rewarding retirement for hardworking Americans. Look for the same great stories, profiles, and innovative business ideas as 401(k) Specialist moves forward, and join me in wishing them all the best.

  1. I agree with the rest, John has done an excellent job as editor, yet also seems like a cool new venture over at the ARA to succeed Nevin. Best of luck as Brian Anderson steps in!
